EPF Establishes its Franco-Chinese Institute with South West Jiaotong University in Chengdu
Ranked among the top 1% of higher education institutions in China, SWJTU is partnering with EPF to create an institute dedicated to engineering education, combining French and Chinese expertise.
This initiative marks a first: it is the first Franco-Chinese Institute led by a private engineering school to offer Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs.
An institute at the heart of a new technology hub in Chengdu
The Franco-Chinese Institute will be housed on the new international campus in Chengdu, jointly built by South West Jiaotong University and the Chengdu Municipal Government, which will host several Sino-international programs and institutes.
Designed as a true ecosystem for higher education and innovation, this campus will host several international institutes and accommodate up to 6,000 students. Located in a region undergoing rapid industrial development, it will contribute to the emergence of a new technological and industrial hub in Southwest China.
An international engineering education program
Starting in September 2027, the Institute will offer three bachelor’s degree programs (four-year programs) :
• Computer Engineering
• Energy and Environmental Engineering
• Data Science and Big Data
Three master’s degree programs will subsequently be added to this offering.
Ultimately, the Institute will enroll more than 2,160 students.
The programs will be designed for Chinese students and taught in English. They will also incorporate a strong French cultural dimension to convey the principles of French-style engineering, based on rigor, innovation, and excellence.
Promoting French engineering internationally
With this Franco-Chinese Institute, EPF continues to develop its international collaborations and strengthen ties between the French and Chinese academic and industrial ecosystems. The IFC will also serve as a catalyst for enhancing cooperation between EPF and South West Jiaotong University regarding student and staff exchange programs, by fostering academic exchanges between the two institutions.
This initiative reflects a shared ambition: to train engineers capable of driving tomorrow’s major technological and industrial transformations, by leveraging the complementary strengths of French and Chinese expertise.
